most popular fanfic I've written since "Nightfall," given the... er, unique beauty of the
characters involved.

"Absolutes" to a Palpatine/Anakin (or as all the cool kids call it nowadays, "Palpakin") fan group's
community journal, and immediately after reading it, somebody dares me to write a film noir parody
around the pairing, co-starring (their words, not mine) "Wiggles the Wonder Snail."
How could I possibly argue with genius like that? |

Summary: An anniversary close to Professor Obi-Wan's heart is fast approaching, much to the befuddlement of his star pupil, Anakin (as well as everyone else Kenobi happens to be banging on the side).
WILL Anakin discover the key to quelling his teacher's frustrations? WILL Padme make it to her latest protest rally on time? And WHAT is the deal with that new student who's always following the Academy President around? Come on, what is he, like, eighty? Who the hell starts on a philosophy major when they're eighty?
Author's Notes: A long, long... few years ago, on a website far away, there was a group of Star Wars geeks who put together some of the funniest material to ever come out of Episode I: the Sith Academy series. This den of scum, in-jokes, and obscure references to villainy had an undeniable charm to it, which only begged the question, given the sheer size and effort put into all those Episode I stories: why didn't anyone continue it?
Well, I gave it a shot, though I can't claim to have gotten very far. Time constraints and general life-getting-in-the-way shut this fic down before I could include a subplot that had Machiavelli nerd Dooku cloning varsity linebacker Jango Fett until over half the campus starts to look alike (the better to boost enrollment-based funding, my dear!). Ah, well. There's still enough of it here to offer a "what might have been."
...Oh, and if any of the original Academy gang is reading this: thanks much for the laughs, even if I was a few years late to the party. |
